Town Hall Meeting: Managing Growth in District 7
Friday, September 12, 2014
District 7 Charlotte City Council representative Ed Driggs is hosting a Town Hall Meeting on Saturday, Sept. 20 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Providence High School. 

The meeting will address concerns about the the impact of rapid development in South Charlotte. Senior members of the City of Charlotte staff, including Debra Campbell, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning Department Planning Director; Mike Davis, Charlotte Department of Transportation (CDOT) Engineering Manager; Christine Hamlett,Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS)Planning Specialist; and Randy Harrington, City of Charlotte Director, Budget and Evaluation (B&E), will speak about the rezoning process, traffic planning, CMS enrollment projections and how local tax dollars are allocated to districts and projects. Attendees will learn about the City of Charlotte’s decision making process and will also have the opportunity to provide input regarding future policies. 

Isabella Santos Foundation 5k for Kids Caner

The Isabella Santos Foundation will hold its 7th annual 5k Race for Kids Cancer on Saturday, September 20 in Ballantyne Corporate Park. The race will also include a 10k course and one mile fun run.

The Willard Trail, located near the 17th hole pond, is now open. The trail is named in honor of Charles R. and Lydia S. Willard and was modeled after The Willard Nature Preserve at YMCA Camp Harrison in Boomer, N.C.

Charlotte Chamber Ballantyne Chapter Luncheon Recap

The Ballantyne Chapter of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce hosted a panel discussion, titled “Why Charlotte? Why Ballantyne?,” about the appeal of Charlotte and the Ballantyne area at its September luncheon. 

The discussion was moderated by Mark Bryant of Wingate University Ballantyne and featured XPO Logistics, Inc.’s John M. Tuomala, MetLife’s James Boylan and Publix’s Kim Reynolds. The panelists discussed the reasons why their companies chose Charlotte and Ballantyne, including the friendly atmosphere, the affordable cost of living and of doing business and the strong talent pool.
